Overage Caps
If you are on a paid plan, you almost certainly already have one. When you upgraded, Vivreal turned on overage billing and set a monthly limit for you, so there was nothing to set up. You can raise that limit, lower it, or switch it off whenever you like.
An overage cap is a monthly limit on the small number of things that can cost more than your plan already includes.
What actually costs extra
Three things, and only these three:
| What it is | In plain terms | Cost above your plan |
|---|---|---|
| CDN bandwidth | How much your site sends out to visitors | $0.50 per GB |
| API calls | Requests for your content, mostly from your own site | $0.005 per call |
| AI agent actions | Jobs you hand to the AI assistant | $0.05 per action |
Everything else your plan covers works differently. Sites, entries, media storage, team members and connected channels are limits rather than meters: reaching one stops you adding more, it does not add to your bill. See If you hit a plan limit.
What your limit is set to
Unless someone has changed it, your cap is the one Vivreal set for your plan:
| Plan | Monthly limit | Limit per category |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39 | $20 |
| Pro | $119 | $60 |
| Pro Plus | $239 | $120 |
While a limit is still the one we set, a Default badge sits next to it. The badge disappears the moment someone saves a different number, so it is a quick way to tell whether anyone has touched yours.
Been paying for a while? Have a look
Groups that were already on a paid plan before we started setting caps automatically were left exactly as they were, on purpose. We were not going to change how anyone's bill worked without them asking. If that is you, open the Group page and check.
What happens when you reach it
The metered extras stop.
- CDN bandwidth or API calls: your site stops serving new content to visitors until the next month begins or someone raises the limit.
- AI agent actions: the assistant stops taking new jobs.
So a cap is a brake, not a warning light. That is worth knowing before you set a low one on a site you need up.
Do you need one?
You have one, so the question is really whether the number suits you. A rough guide:
- Leave it alone if your traffic is steady and predictable. The default is set to catch a surprise, not to get in your way.
- Raise it if you are running a campaign, a launch, or anything else that could bring a rush of visitors, and you would rather pay for a busy month than have the site stop.
- Turn it off only if you would never want your site to stop serving. With no cap there is no limit on what the extras can add up to, so watch Usage if you go this way.
Changing your cap
Open the Group page.
Find the Overage Billing section, then Spending Caps inside it.
Set the Total Monthly Spend Cap, and a limit per category if you want finer control. Leave a box empty for no limit of that kind.
Choose Save Spending Caps.
Changing billing is limited to the owner of the group and anyone with the admin role. See Roles and permissions.
On the Free plan
There is nothing to set up and nothing to worry about. Free plans are never billed for extra usage, so there is no cap to configure. If a quiet month turns into a busy one, Vivreal absorbs it rather than charging you or taking your site down.
