Photos Not Showing

A photo is missing, or you are seeing a broken image icon where it should be.

1. Check the upload finished

Open the item and look at the photo field. If the picture is there, the upload worked. If the field is empty, it did not.

Uploads fail quietly when a connection drops part way, which happens more than you would think on a phone. Try uploading again on a stable connection.

2. Save after uploading

Uploading a photo and then leaving the page does not keep it. The upload attaches the photo to the item, and Save is what commits it.

If you uploaded a photo and navigated away without saving, upload it again and tap Save this time.

3. Check the field exists

If you are trying to add a photo and there is nowhere to put it, the content type does not have a photo field yet.

Open the content type, add a field of type Image, Gallery, or File Upload, and save. Then go back to your item and the upload area will be there. See Content Fields.

4. Check the file itself

A few things will stop a photo:

• Very large files. A photo straight off a good camera can be enormous. Anything over about 5MB is worth shrinking first, and your phone's own editing tools can do it.
• Unusual file types. Stick to JPG, PNG, and WebP for photos. HEIC, the format iPhones use by default, does not display everywhere.
• A file that is not really an image, such as a PDF renamed to .jpg.

5. Refresh properly

If the photo is there in Vivreal but not on your site, your browser may be showing a stored copy of the page. Hold Shift and click reload, or open the page in a private window.

6. Check the item is live

A photo attached to an item with a future publish date will not appear until that date arrives, because the whole item is not live yet. Open the item and check its publish date.

A note on deleting

Deleting an item also deletes the photos attached to it, and that cannot be undone. If you need a photo back after deleting the item, you will need to upload it again, so keep your originals.
